Bill and Melinda Gates signed a separation agreement which in reality is nothing more than a settlement agreement. Though, they still aren’t actually divorced.
Agreed divorces or divorces where a settlement agreement can be reached are certainly finalized faster than contested divorces, but how long do you actually have to wait if you want to be divorced?
Bill and Melinda Gates are getting divorced out of Washington and have to wait 90 days. In the state of Texas, the waiting period is only 60 days from the date of filing to the date your divorce can be finalized.
In order to get divorced in Texas, you must be a resident of Texas. It may be wise to divorce in Texas before you think about moving to a different state. Some states may require up to a year of separation before actually finalizing your divorce.
