Britney Spears is speaking out and asking a California Court to end her long running conservatorship.
A Conservatorship is what we call a Guardianship in the State of Texas. Guardianship is a court process where the court appoints someone who has legal responsibility over the care and management of a person or estate of an incapacitated individual who cannot act for himself or herself. In order to declare someone legally incapacitated in Texas, they must be declared so by a Probate Court.
Guardianships are not always permanent. When an individual no longer needs a Guardianship, they can ask the Court to dismiss the Guardianship, much like what Britney Spears is trying to do.
