Mental Health Law "Mental Illness" appears to have such a negative connotation with our society when in fact it should be no different than suffering from a medical condition. It is an illness that is not chosen nor does it discriminate. People who suffer from mental illness should not be treated any differently than someone who has diabetes. They should not be looked down upon or as someone who actually has a choice as to whether or not they have a mental illness. We offer expertise, experience and compassion in working with the mentally ill and their family members. It is always a very difficult time for all involved. Our experience ranges from working with those that suffer from a mental illness to working with family members or friends that want to help a loved one suffering from a mental illness that is doing harm to themselves or others. We work with the mentally ill that have been or are being taken advantage of, or acknowledge they need help and ask for our assistance in placing them with a doctor or in a facility that will best be able to help control their illness so that they do not feel as though they are a threat to themselves, others, or just out of control. We work with family members and friends in explaining the process when a loved one is a threat to themselves, others, or just out of control. We are also there to help them understand they are not alone. We are there every step of the way during this very difficult and trying time. We are very experienced with the process of obtaining Mental Illness Warrants. We can also offer our vast expertise, experience and familiarity we have in helping work with the doctors and the various private facilities and State Hospital in treating the mentally ill. A patient who has chronic mental illness is what we refer to as a “revolving door case.” This means they are continually in and out of psychiatric facilities, whether on a voluntary or involuntary basis. The commitment process is like applying a bandage to a cancer. We have had great success in coupling the commitment process with a guardianship which we analogize to using chemotherapy on the cancer instead of just a bandage.
