Helping Dallas, Park Cities, Highland Park Texas Area Families with Estate Planning, Probate & Litigation

In most homes pets are considered family. There are two instances that we deal with pets and the law.

Pet Trusts

The first is by utilizing an estate planning vehicle called a Pet Trust to protect your pet or pets if something happened to you. A Pet Trust allows you to designate who you want your pets to go to and also allows you to leave them a certain amount of money for their care.

Divorce Possession Schedules

The second is during a divorce. When most people think of divorce they think of who gets the house or who gets custody of the kids, but rarely think of who gets the dog. Because pets continue to become more and more important, we are seeing judges’ award possession schedules for pets. If you are going through a divorce, it’s important to consider a possession schedule for your furry four-legged friends.
